1. Dancing: Maria and Marius Ursu
Marius Ursu is the master choreographer of the folk ensemble
Doina Timisului of The Students’ Culture House in Timisoara.
Since 1983 he has been part of the folk ensemble Doina Timisului of The Students’
Culture House in Timisoara. Since 1986 he has been a member of the folk ensemble
Timisul, too.
As a dancer soloist, Marius participated in two editions of the national folk
festivals, winning every time the first prize, in the years 1985 and 1987.
In 1987 he was promoted as assistant choreographer at the folk ensemble Doina
Timisului, and starting with 1990 he has been keeping in his hands the fate of
this ensemble, which is considered the best student folk ensemble and one of the
most performant in the country.
At that moment Marius was the youngest master choreographer in the country, recognized
by the National Association of Folk Choreographers from Romania. He has taken
part in workshops in countries like: Canada, Germany, England, USA, Sweden, Yugoslavia,
Hungary, Japan, Switzerland, Brazil, Holland, Belgium, Hong-Kong, Bulgaria.
Maria Ursu has been fond of the folk dance from an early age,
going through all the stages to reach artistic performance, from the children
and youth folk ensembles to the renowned amateur ensembles (Timisul and Doina
Timisului). Starting with 2000 she has been helping Marius with the preparation
of the department for young women of the folk ensemble Doina Timisului.
Since 2004 she is responsible for the preparation of the folk ensemble for youth
Doina.
By teaching together, in different compartments, Marius and Maria offer a better
possibility for teaching to all the participants, and, couple dancing can be easily
understood, for the very reason. Each one of their program contains a variety
of dances form all the folk regions of the country.
After 1990 they have participated in over 70 tours abroad, in over 25 countries,
on 5 continents: SUA, Canada, Brazil, Egypt, Japan, France, Spain, Portugal, Andorra,
Germany, England, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Poland,
Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Moldavia, etc.
2. Music: Remus Grosu and Costel Moldovan
Remus Grosu is a music professor at the Children Club in Timisoara.
Graduate of the Music Conservatory, pedagogical domain, he has been leading the
group Flori Banatene. He has been a member of the folk ensemble Doina Timisului
from 1992 and he is specialized in the wind instruments; clarinet, saxophone,
whistle, caval and ocarina. In 1995, 1996, 1997 he won the first prize at the
national folk festivals. He has recorded music at Timisoara Radio and The Romanian
Television.
Costel Moldovan is a professional instrument player at the folk
ensemble Banatul from Timisoara. He is considered one of the most valuable violin
instrumentalists in the country and he has collaborated with Timisoara Radio and
The Romanian Television.
